Tel Es-Sultan (Ancient Jericho)

Tel Es-Sultan is the ruins of Ancient Jericho, the oldest know city in the world. Tel Es-Sultan means Sultan's Hill in Arabic and Hebrew. This area was first settled around 10,000 years ago. Today most of the structures are in ruins. Visible are ancient stairways, walls, and towers. The remains of the round tower are dated to 8,000 years ago and indicate that this is the first fortified city.

There are more artifacts located below the sand. This area was build one city, on top of another. Although there is not much to see. This is the site of the first city, where animals were first domesticated and farming began on nearby land.
